BCCIE Summer Conference provides an essential platform for the growth of BC’s International Education sector. BCCIE’s annual conference brings together more than 400 participants from our province, across Canada and beyond our borders. The conference attracts senior leaders, researchers, practitioners, student service providers, administrators, government, NGOs, and students to explore these ideas with the aim of strengthening our work and taking steps towards advancing outstanding leadership in the fields of International Education in BC.

Keynote lunch with Roberta Jamieson
Roberta Jamieson is a Mohawk woman who has enjoyed a distinguished career of firsts. She was the first First Nation woman in Canada to earn a law degree; the first non-parliamentarian appointed an ex-officio member of a House of Commons Committee; the first woman Ombudsman of Ontario; and the first woman elected Chief of the Six Nations of the Grand River Territory. An accomplished expert in alternative dispute resolution, Roberta also served as Commissioner of the Indian Commission of Ontario.

Under Roberta’s leadership, Indspire has flourished. Raising funds from government, corporate and private sectors, Indspire’s annual disbursements of bursaries and scholarships support Indigenous students in post-secondary education and training. She has earned numerous awards, including, YWCA’s President’s Award and Women’s Executive Network’s “Canada’s Most Powerful Women” Hall of Fame, as well as 25 honorary degrees.

Chief Robert Joseph is currently the Ambassador for Reconciliation Canada and a member of the National Assembly of First Nations Elders Council. He was formerly the Executive Director of the Indian Residential School Survivors Society and is an honourary witness to Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC). As Chairman of the Native American Leadership Alliance for Peace and Reconciliation and Ambassador for Peace and Reconciliation with the Interreligious and International Federation for World Peace (IFWP), Chief Joseph has sat with the leaders of South Africa, Israel, Japan, South Korea, Mongolia and Washington, DC to learn from and share his understanding of faith, hope, healing and reconciliation.

Partnering with Mexican Universities in Jalisco
This lunch session is a Mexico round table to present the Jalisco Consortium for the Internationalization of Higher Education, partner of BCCIE since 2017.

As a partner of BCCIE since 2017, the Jalisco top universities, members of the Consortium, are interested in identifying areas of collaboration for Jalisco and BCCIE members, such as research collaboration including mobility from researchers and visits to Jalisco and to BC; faculty members and student mobility and in house internationalization.

The Jalisco Consortium members are: Tec de Monterrey, UNIVA; Universidad de Guadalajara, Universidad Panamericana, Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara and ITESO.
