BCCIE Summer Conference provides an essential platform for the growth of BC’s International Education sector. BCCIE’s annual conference brings together more than 400 participants from our province, across Canada and beyond our borders. The conference attracts senior leaders, researchers, practitioners, student service providers, administrators, government, NGOs, and students to explore these ideas with the aim of strengthening our work and taking steps towards advancing outstanding leadership in the fields of International Education in BC.

Moving from Uneasy to Engaged: An Exploration of Building Welcoming and Powerful Learning Communities [Intercultural/Indigenous Stream]

Pearson College is an independent school that puts diversity and community building at the core of its education to enhance and maximize learning. This workshop will focus how to build community from a creative perspective. The workshop will outline how to create a “welcoming environment” that plays an important role in building community. Participants will learn about a number of key theoretical and practical ideas that can be implemented in any school setting to create engaged and powerful learning communities. First half of the workshop will explore theories such as: Art of Hosting, Youth Engagement and Integrated Dialogue. Participants will understand how to utilize these theories to create welcoming environments. In the second half, participants will learn how to implement these theories into their school settings in a creative and practical way to build engaged communities.
